The symbol editor does not use the setting from Eeschema.V4 Beta 3 still rotates markings with components. However, it does appear that the Footprint Editor uses the setting from Pcbnew. Sadly, it seems that there are no similar options for the Symbol Library Editor. “Center and warp cursor” setting in Pcbnew General Settings In Pcbnew, the layout program, go to Preferences > General Settings and uncheck the box next to “Center and warp cursor on zoom.”.In Eeschema, the schematic capture program, go to Preferences > General Options > Controls tab and uncheck the box next to “Center and warp cursor on zoom.”. However, I was delighted to find that there is a checkbox option to turn this behavior off, which makes KiCad work just like other CAD software. Furthermore, the mouse pointer is “warped” to the center of the screen (if it did not do this, the view would jump back and forth with successive scroll wheel movements).Īnyway, this vexed me. However, in KiCad the screen completely re-centers the view when you roll the scroll wheel to the location of the mouse cursor when the wheel was moved. In other CAD programs, the screen gradually moves toward the mouse cursor. Also similar to most CAD tools, the location of the mouse pointer on the screen sets the “zoom target.” In other words, the screen moves toward the mouse pointer as you zoom in. In KiCad, as in most CAD tools, the mouse scroll wheel is used to zoom in and out. The general behavior in KiCad is similar to other tools, but with one important difference that irritates me. This may be personal preference, but I find KiCad’s zoom behavior jarring and annoying compared to other CAD tools like DipTrace, or AutoCAD, or Fusion 360, or LTSPICE, or… KiCad is a free electronic CAD (ECAD) program for designing circuit boards (some people call this electronic design automation, or EDA).
